STAR Spring ‘08 Celebration

Five Town Communities That Care celebrated the completion of its Spring Cycle on Friday, May 30. Students and their families joined STAR staff and CTC Board members at the Penobscot Bay YMCA for an evening of food, recognition, and fun!

This spring marks the completion of 13 successful cycles of the STAR program, and brings the total number of students served in the Five-Town area to just over 350 in 4 years.  Many of these students have participated for multiple cycles. Participants this spring learned skills in Animal Husbandry, Basketball, Childcare Education, Cooking, Hip Hop Dance, Rock Climbing, Swimming, and Youth Fitness.

STAR is made available at no charge to students through the generous contributions of community agencies and businesses. This spring students learned their skills at Aldermere Farm, Camden Hills Regional High School, the Penobscot Bay YMCA, Peopleplace Cooperative Preschool, and Rockport Dance Conservatory. The STAR after school program has also worked with Cafe Miranda, the Country Inn at Camden/Rockport, and the Teen Center this spring. STAR additionally benefits from the support of community members and Maine’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Group.

Friday’s celebration was made available thanks to donations from Domino’s Pizza, Hannaford, Pizza Hut, and the Penobscot Bay YMCA.
