Out of Darkness Suicide Prevention Walk Date Set for Fall

This fall thousands of people will participate in ‘Out of the Darkness Community Walks’ to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Local residents will have an opportunity to walk in Rockport on the morning of September 26th.

The Rockport Out of Darkness Walk will raise funds for AFSP’s local and national suicide prevention programs, and raise awareness of this important issue.

Suicide is a national health problem; across the nation and in our community efforts to prevent suicide are hindered by the stigma and silence that surround mental health issues in general.

The walk will be self-paced and appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. To register individually, or with a team go to www.outofthedarkness.org.

For more information or to help organize the event, contact Dalene Dutton or Julie Clement. Dutton can be contacted at the Five Town Communities That Care office at 236-9800 or by emailing dalene@fivetownctc.org. Clement can be reached at Long Funeral Home at 236-0092 or by emailing longfuneral@gwi.net.
