Midcoast Community Chorus Concert Yields $10K for FTCTC!

On Friday, June 25th, Midcoast Community Chorus (MCC) Executive and Artistic Director Mimi Bornstein presented Five Town Communities That Care Board Chair Dick Strong with a donation of $9500 from MCC.  The monies represent proceeds from MCC’s June 12 concert to benefit Five Town Communities That Care, entitled “It takes a Village.”

More than 800 seats in the Strom Auditorium were full on that night, and more than 100 community members made up the chorus.  Music was selected to fit the overall theme of the concert and the mission of the concert beneficiary.  During several of the pieces the audience was encouraged to sing along with the chorus—this resulted in nearly 1000 voices being raised in song and a very powerful atmosphere in the auditorium.

During intermission members of Lincolnville’s United Christian Church offered a delicious variety of baked goodies and bottled water.  Through their efforts they raised more than $500 additional dollars for Five Town Communities That Care.

Hooked on Hookah?

A new study, “Water Pipe Smoking Among North American Youths,” published in the June print issue of Pediatrics, the peer-reviewed, scientific journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, describes the demographic characteristics of water pipe users. And what they found could blow supporters of this leisure activity out of the water.  Read more on the CADCA website at http://www.cadca.org/resources/detail/hooked-hookah-study-raises-questions-about-water-pipe-smoking
