Win up to $100 in the Harvest Hootenanny Pumpkin Carving Contest!

In addition to the Pie Baking Contest, there will be a pumpkin carving contest at the Harvest Hootenanny!  The first place winner will walk away with $100; second and third prize winners will pocket $50 and $25 respectively.

As in the pie contest, the rules are simple:

1.     Submissions for judging must be pumpkins, rather than squash or other material.  Decorations of other carved vegetables or fruits may be included as minor components.

2.     Carvings must total less than 50 lbs.

3.     All submissions must come with their own working light source (electrical outlets will be available).

4.     Entries must be appropriate for public display.

5.     Judging will be based on overall impression, carving technique, creativity.

6.     Pumpkins and entry form must be delivered to the Contest Tent at the Camden Snow Bowl between 10:30AM and noon on October 9, 2010 for consideration in the contest.

7.     All entries become the property of Five Town Communities That Care / West Bay Rotary.

8.     After judging, pumpkins will be sold to the general public (via silent auction) as a fund-raiser for Five Town Communities That Care and the West Bay Rotary Club.

9.     Judging will be done “blind,” with entries identified to judges by numbers only.

10.  Contestants may only win one prize per person, but may submit multiple entries.

The judges will award ONE first-place prize of $100, ONE second-place prize of $50, and ONE third-place prize of $25. The decision of the judges will be final.

Win up to $100 in the Harvest Hootenanny Pie Baking Contest!

Calling all bakers!  If you have a favorite harvest-themed pie in your recipe file, we hope you will enter it in the first annual Harvest Hootenanny Pie Contest this Saturday, October 9th, at the Snow Bowl in Camden.

If your pie wins first place, you will win $100! Second and third place prizes are $50 and $25 respectively.  After judging, pies will be sold by the slice to the crowd attending at the Hootenanny to raise funds for Five Town Communities That Care and The West Bay Rotary Club.

The rules are simple:

1.     Pies must have a fall  (harvest) theme.

2.     Pies, including crust, must be made from scratch. (No pre-mixes, puddings, canned fillings or commercial mixes).

3.     Pies can be one or two crust.

4.     Pies must be 8-10 inches; pie pans are non-returnable.

5.     Pies are to be room temperature at time of judging.  Pies will not be judged when warm.

6.     There must be a list of ALL ingredients (not the recipe)— including the crust— provided with each pie (for allergy reasons).

7.      All pies become the property of Five Town Communities That Care / West Bay Rotary.

8.     After judging, pies will be sold to the general public (by the slice) as a fund-raiser for Five Town Communities That Care and the West Bay Rotary Club.

9.     Pies, list of ingredients, and entry form must be delivered to the Pie Contest Tent at the Camden Snow Bowl between 10:30AM and noon on October 9, 2010 for consideration in the contest.

10.   The judges will award ONE first-place prize of $100, ONE second-place prize of $50, and ONE third-place prize of $25.  Judging will be based on appearance, taste, overall impression, creativity, and use of local ingredients (see sample scoring sheet).  The decision of the judges will be final.
