Over 150 Gather For STAR Cycle 20 Celebration!

On Tuesday, November 9th, the Camden Hills Regional High School Wave Cafe was full of parents and local middle school students celebrating another great STAR program cycle.  More than 150 people gathered to have pizza, salad, and cake, and to recognize the accomplishments of the more than 50 students who participated in the 20th cycle of the after school program.

Students in this fall’s cycle of STAR learned lots of new skills in a variety of course offerings.  The lineup included Jiu Jitsu (at Midcoast Martial Arts), Jewelry Making (with Janine Colcord of Black Horse Designs), Improvisational Drama, Creative Writing, Farm Hands (working with Aldermere Farm’s Belted Galloway calves), Animal Antics (working with the animals in the care of the Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League), Green Thumb Growers (working at the Erickson Preserve gardens), and Cooking (at Farmer’s Fare).

As is true for all STAR cycles, there was no cost to the participants or their families and transportation to and from the student’s schools was provided.

STAR is made possible by the contributions of the great community partners involved in the program, as well as a generous grant from Maine’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Group.  Special thanks this cycle go out to Janet Bennett, Breanna Dorr, Midcoast Martial Arts, Janine Colcord and Black Horse Designs, Aspen Jones, George Chappell, Aldermere Farm, Camden-Rockport Animal Rescue League, the Erickson Preserve and the Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Farmers Fare, J&B Printing, Elm Street Printing, Rockport Pizza Hut, Rub’s Dinnerhouse and Grill, Cappy’s Chowder House, and Luce Transportation.

The next cycle of STAR is scheduled to being in early January.  For more information, call 207-236-9800 or email star@fivetownctc.org.

Entries Sought for Second Annual Holiday Home Tour

The holiday season is right around the corner, and for some of us a good part of the excitement of the season is in getting to decorate our houses. If you love to decorate and would like the opportunity to share what you have created, please consider allowing us to feature your house in the second annual Five Town Communities That Care Holiday Home Tour.

Local inns and homeowners are opening their doors to the public in the spirit of the season and in support of promoting healthy youth.  Applications to enter your house in the tour are available at the Five Town Communities That Care office or via email at info@fivetownctc.org.    Please get your application to us by November 10th.

The tour will occur during the Christmas By The Sea celebration on Saturday, December 4, 2010.  All proceeds will benefit Five Town Communities That Care, an organization focused on promoting health youth development in Appleton, Camden, Hope, Lincolnville, and Rockport.  For more information call 236-9800.
